God’s Greatest Child

Of Earth, did man, (some slower than others)

By intrigue and force,

Overwhelm Nature Mother.

So we called ourselves kings,

For did we not,

Reap all before us in relentless onslaught?

We burnt and we cut through rock and through trees,

And by cunning and bronze-

Brought Neanderthal to knees.

And we polished rough lands, and tamed what was wild,

But in shadows were watched-

By God’s greatest child..

Through time’s progressed march,

We grasped and we held,

Art, Science, and Math-

( But at blood we excelled!)

We took as we needed, and did some things quite well-

Break a law at your peril-break a child go to hell.

And through it all we were measured and judged -Still too wild,

When viewed and thought over,

By God’s greatest child..

We sculpt and we painted,

Our emperors and gods,

Went to moon, and split atom,

(regardless of odds!)

And somewhere in time- peace was made,

(Once reviled!)

By both sides- man and canine,

Still - God’s greatest child..
