Up in the Air (2009)
Directed by Jason Reitman.
Starring George Clooney and an All-star supporting cast.
The most underrated film of the decade, Up in the Air is a great respite from the same old tired comic book shit..
Leaving politics aside- (I’ve been a Clooney fan since Dr. Doug Ross and ER) - if I boycotted every film because I didn’t care for the actor’s views I’d be stuck watching an endless loop of The Ten Commandments and Midnight Cowboy..
George was born to play this role of a professional traveling downsizer and anyone who has ever been “let go” should watch this movie at least once..I’ve watched it three times and enjoyed it a LOT more the last two..( I missed most of the greatest dialogue and nuances the first time.)
The scene where Clooney and his assistant,(played brilliantly by Anna Kendrick,) fires J.K. Simmons is amazing ..
EVERY scene is superbly acted-(no easy feat,) and EVERY line is perfectly written and delivered..
All films rely heavily on a good title and like the best prison movie ever made, The Shawshank Redemption, Up in the Air suffers from lack of imagination. It didn’t do well at the box office because it had a lousy name..
Three times for me…Showing on Netflix now. Satisfaction guaranteed or price of admission free..
