The big craze of European opera in the 17th and 18th century was the “Castrato.” Young boys had their testicles removed so that they could retain the angelic, soprano pitch of a ten year old..( I wonder how often the victims had any say-so in the matter.)
There is one surviving recording of the last castrato, made in 1903..I guess it is an acquired taste, but I find it a very unsettling, creepy sound, ( as I check my own package reassuringly.)
Of course with no balls there is no puberty - and don’t even bring up the subject of Michael Jackson - (but rumors persisted for decades..)
Castrato’s vocal chords never hardened- they remained flexible - and that gave them range rivaling or surpassing the most talented of female singers.. Despite years of denial the Roman Catholic Church, ( with all their heavenly boys choirs,) assuredly employed and probably created hundreds of them. It wasn’t outlawed until 1903..
Nowadays the same surgical procedure can be done to moody teenagers for the asking..
Below the equator all drains, toilets, etc., swirl the opposite direction than above the equator..
With much wisdom comes much grief - he that increaseth knowledge, increaseth sorrow.. Ecclesiastes 1:18
